Privacy Policy for Kanji Lock

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Kanji Lock (“we,” “our,” or “the App”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Kanji Lock.

1. Information We Collect

Kanji Lock does not require you to create an account or provide personal information such as your name, email address, phone number, or address.

The App stores certain information necessary to provide its features, including:

This information is stored locally on your device or within the App Group storage used by Kanji Lock and its iOS extensions. We do not operate a server that collects or stores this information.

If analytics is enabled (it is on by default and can be turned off at any time), the App also sends anonymous usage data to a third-party analytics service. See Section 5 for details.

2. Screen Time and App Blocking

Kanji Lock uses Apple’s Screen Time frameworks, including Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity, to provide its app-blocking functionality.

When you select apps or app categories to block, the selection is handled using Apple’s Family Controls framework.

Kanji Lock does not receive or store the names of the specific apps you select. The App receives an opaque representation provided by Apple that allows it to apply the requested restrictions without identifying the selected apps.

Information accessed through Apple’s Screen Time APIs is used solely to provide Kanji Lock’s app-blocking functionality. It is not sent to our analytics service.

3. Learning Data

Kanji Lock records information such as:

This information is used to provide learning progress, statistics, quiz functionality, and other features within the App.

This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers or to our analytics service.

4. Purchases and Subscriptions

Kanji Lock may offer paid subscriptions through Apple’s App Store.

Purchases and subscription management are processed by Apple using StoreKit. Kanji Lock may receive information from StoreKit about whether you have an active subscription and information necessary to display and provide subscription features.

We do not receive or store your payment card details or other payment information.

Apple’s handling of purchase information is governed by Apple’s own privacy policies.

5. Analytics and Advertising

Analytics. Kanji Lock uses Amplitude, a third-party analytics service provided by Amplitude, Inc., to understand how the App is used and to improve it. Analytics is turned on by default. You can turn it off at any time in Settings > Privacy > Send anonymous usage data. When turned off, the App stops sending analytics data.

When analytics is enabled, the App may send the following:

This data is not linked to your name, email address, or any account, because Kanji Lock has no accounts.

The analytics data does not include your answers, learning history, custom kanji cards, or the apps you choose to block. Kanji Lock does not access or use Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA).

Amplitude processes this data on our behalf under its own terms and privacy policy (https://amplitude.com/privacy). The data may be processed in countries other than your own.

Advertising. Kanji Lock does not use advertising SDKs. We do not use your information for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking, or profiling.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

Anonymous usage data described in Section 5 is shared with Amplitude, Inc., which acts as our service provider for analytics. If you turn analytics off, this sharing stops.

Because Kanji Lock does not operate a backend service for storing your learning data, your learning history, custom cards, and app-blocking selections are not uploaded to our servers.

Information may be processed by Apple where necessary to provide operating system services, App Store purchases, subscriptions, and Screen Time functionality, subject to Apple’s applicable terms and privacy policies.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Learning data and settings stored by Kanji Lock generally remain on your device until they are deleted through the App, the App’s data is reset, or the App is removed from your device.

Because this information is stored locally and is not associated with a Kanji Lock account on our servers, we generally do not possess a server-side copy of your learning data to delete.

Anonymous usage data sent to our analytics service is not linked to an account or to your identity, so we generally cannot identify the data that came from a particular person. You can stop further collection at any time by turning analytics off in Settings. Your analytics preference is kept when you use “Delete all data” in the App.

8. Children’s Privacy

Kanji Lock is an educational application and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The App does not require users to provide their name, email address, or other identifying information to use its core functionality.

9. Security

Kanji Lock is designed to minimize the collection and transmission of user information. Learning data and settings are primarily kept locally on your device.

However, no method of electronic storage or software system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if Kanji Lock’s features or data-handling practices change.

If we make material changes, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.

11. Contact
